On the rise: Nic Quigg has signed for GWS in the VFL.

Seymour star Nic Quigg has signed with the Greater Western Sydney VFL side for the 2024 season.

After spending last season aligned with Coburg Lions in the VFL, this year Quigg has made the decision to drive up the Hume Fwy to have a crack at his AFL dream for the ‘’Orange Tsunami’’.

The 19-year-old midfielder already has an impressive footballing resume having debuted for the Lions in the VFL last year, captained the Murray Bushrangers in the Coates Talent League and came second in their best-and-fairest.

Seymour president Gerard O’Sullivan said while it would be disappointing not to see Quigg run out in Lions colours in round one, the club was excited to watch one of its own fight for their AFL dream.

“Nic was an outstanding junior footballer and we’re looking forward to him taking another huge step in his career,” O’Sullivan said.

“While it’s a shame to lose Nic around the club, we couldn’t be happier to see him take this opportunity and we have no doubt he’ll make the most of it.

“To go into a VFL set-up and professional environment will be a big change, but a massive progression for Nic’s football.”

Despite making the move to Sydney for the season, Quigg has still listed Seymour as his home club, meaning O’Sullivan is holding out hope that they may see the midfielder feature for the Lions at some point this season.

“Hopefully, if the chance arises, we can sneak him in for a couple of games this year,” he said.

“We’ve got a great young midfield and several boys with VFL experience, which is only going to make the club stronger.

“We wish Nic all the best. He’s a great young kid and we can’t wait to follow his performances from afar this year.”

Seymour will be hoping to make a bigger dent into finals in 2024 after losing its semi-final match to Euroa by 22 points last year.
