Seymour has continued its golden off-season of recruiting, securing the services of former Werribee utility Louis Pinnuck for 2022.
Pinnuck, who hails from Strathmerton, enjoyed a consistent VFL career playing 48 games for the Tigers in five seasons after being a standout for the Murray Bushrangers at underage level from 2014 to 2016.
Committing fully to the Lions for next season, Pinnuck adds to what is shaping up to be a star-studded line-up down at Kings Park, with the club also adding the likes of former Essendon and Hawthorn defender Michael Hartley, James Wooster, and Todd Lawrence to its playing stocks in recent months.
Seymour coach Ben Davey said he was thrilled to welcome Pinnuck to the Lions’ den.
“We are very excited to have Louis join us this season, having worked with him in the past at the Murray Bushrangers I know he is a quality operator on and off the field and will really fit in with our group,” Davey said.
“To be able to keep adding VFL talent to our list it is very exciting, we have a number of boys affiliated with clubs for this year, so we are hoping they can bring that experience back to the group and put us in great stead moving forward.”
Standing at 186cm and renowned for his athletic ability, Pinnuck will add valuable flexibility to the Lions, sporting an ability to play up forward, down back or through the midfield.
Davey outlined what Seymour fans could expect to see from the gun recruit.
“Louis is a really classy player with excellent skills and the ability to run all day, so I feel he will fit into our side perfectly,” he said.
“He also never shirks a contest and is hard as nails, so I am excited to be able to use him in a number of different areas and can’t wait for the extra versatility he will bring to our squad.”
The Lions were the surprise packet of the 2021 season, chalking up nine wins and suffering two defeats to finish the COVID-19 ravaged campaign in third spot on the ladder.
With some handy new additions and continued growth out of its young core, Seymour now comes into the new year as one of the major contenders for the flag.
This is something Davey said his squad understood as it looks to embrace the lofty expectations.
“Coming into last year nobody really gave us much of a shot, even after winning our first nine games people were still picking us to lose, so heading into this year we are in a bit of a different position,” he said.
“(With the recruits) we understand we are probably now seen as one of the top few sides heading into this season, but we aren’t really focused on the outside expectations and are just conscious of what is happening within the four walls of our club.”
