Shepparton aerobics club prepares for another huge representation at national event

Shepparton's Revival Aerobics is continuing to thrive on the state and national stages.

Year after year, one Shepparton club consistently dominates not just local, but Victorian competition.

The Revival Aerobics studio is preparing for yet another staggeringly large contingent to travel to Adelaide for national championships in August.

The opportunity, which Revival students have been no stranger to since the studio opened five years ago, comes off the back of another massive haul at the SchoolAerobics State Championships, which took place in Rowville across June 1-2.

The studio, owned by Sean Reynolds and Daniel Johnson, sent 32 competitors across a range of divisions that normally involve musical routines between 90 seconds and two minutes long — with a massive 19 medals bagged for the trip home.

Comprised of eight gold medals, eight silvers and three bronzes, you’d be forgiven for thinking that was the extent of Revival’s incredible success.

That said, of the 32 who competed at state titles, no fewer than 28 have received invitations to showcase themselves at nationals — almost 90 per cent of the entire cohort.

Co-owner Reynolds was certainly thrilled that his charges went on with the job .

“The majority of our entries have gone on and we’re very stoked with that,” Reynolds said.

“We had a lot of success last year, but we’ve had a lot of growth since then with more athletes and more entries.

“The success is only getting bigger and better with more kids, and that’s fantastic for us.

“I think it’s important to highlight our OldSkool cheer team as two-time national champions who’ll be fighting for that title again this year. They’re quite competitive.”

There is, to perhaps state the bleeding obvious, no shortage of high-end talent under Reynolds’ watch — and it’s appeared that way every year since Revival opened its doors.

Given that gold medals at state titles are ordinarily the only concrete way to guarantee a national berth, the amount of competitors who have earned their way is astounding.

Reynolds couldn’t be prouder of how the squad kids have come along in their journeys, some of whom will taste national competition for the first time in August.

“We see the kids put the blood, sweat and tears into training two or three times a week, and you see the hard work they put in,” Reynolds said.

“It’s fantastic to see them be rewarded for that and now it continues.

“A lot of them will have been there in years before, but we have kids such as our junior cheer team who qualified for the first time, which is great.

“We’re very proud of our kids, our club and all the success we’ve had. We’re excited for an even bigger season than last year.”
