The Shepparton velodrome will be awash with cycling talent on Wednesday with the Shepparton Cycling Club’s Christmas track carnival to be held.

More than 100 competitors are set to battle it out in junior and senior categories as cyclists from across the country descend on the Goulburn Valley.

Speaking ahead of the carnival Shepparton Cycling Club president Wendy Abbott said it was good to have the event on once again.

“We’re looking forward to the racing, they’ve missed out on so much in the year,” Abbott said.

“Cyclists are looking for more racing because so many have been cancelled over the year.”

Facing the challenge of COVID-19 along with the recent Shepparton floods, Abbott said the facility and club were in good shape for the event.

“We were very lucky with the floods, it (the velodrome) was a metre deep in water, but we seem to have come out of it in pretty good shape,” Abbott said.

“We’ve had to pressure wash it all down, get rid of all the mud and sludge and everything, but it’s all nice and clean and ready to go.”

While a carnival was run last year, the 2022 edition is set to be bigger and better — and there are a number of titles up for grabs.

Four state championship events are up for grabs, while three feature events are sure to capture spectators’ attention.

All the action will start at 11am with junior racing, while senior racing begins at 6pm and continues under lights.

There will be a canteen available and supporters are encouraged to bring their own chair.

Entry for spectators is $10.
