Shepparton Golf flies the local flag on its way to midweek pennant grand final

The Goulburn Valley Playing Area Edna Harling Shield completed its penultimate fixture Tuesday as midweek bowls steamed on towards next week’s grand final.

Shepparton Golf took all it could handle from Kyabram in a fiercely-fought preliminary final affair.

The Golfers rode a single-shot victory by Carla Miles’ rink and a handy result from John Stokes’ quartet to scrape out the result necessary to make the 2023-24 decider, prevailing 14-74 to 2-68.

Golf travels to face Seymour on its home rink in a rematch of last week’s semi-final on March 5.

There was better news for Kyabram in division two, staving off Mooroopna by a single shot to meet Tallygaroopna in the decider.

Avenel fell to a straight-sets finals exit in division three after Mooroopna Golf triumphed to book a date with Seymour VRI.

One huge rink win was not enough for Euroa, which fell out of division four contention after a tough loss to East Shepparton, now set to take on Eildon for the title.

The same misfortune would befall Violet Town, which crashed out to Tatura-Hill Top and missed out on a division five grand final berth against Merrigum.

As expected, an all-Mooroopna clash decides the division six title next week after Mooroopna Blue blitzed Rushworth to lock in a rematch with Mooroopna White.
