A famous Goulburn Valley name will make a return to the pinnacle of Australian motorsport racing later this year.

Garry Jacobson is set to jump behind the wheel and co-drive in the Supercars Championship for Tickford Racing in its enduro line-up following an announcement earlier this week.

The Shepparton native and Tyler Everingham were named as the two drivers who will partner up with Benalla’s Zak Best and James Moffat at this year’s Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000 for the Ford team.

Jacobson, who was axed from PremiAir Racing midway through last year, has spent time away from the sport to reset and recharge the batteries.

But the 2016 Super2 champion is back.

Jacobson spent Wednesday and Thursday at the Supercars pre-season testing at Sydney Motorsport Park — his first foray behind the wheel of a V8 Supercar since his exit last June.

His return to racing coincides with a return to a familiar and memorable setting.

Jacobson earned his stripes and reputation while he was a Tickford Racing driver; the partnership enjoyed success during Jacobson’s Super2 title and his eighth-place finish at the 2017 Bathurst 1000.

Tickford chief executive and team principal Tim Edwards said he was rapt to welcome Jacobson back into the team’s garage once more.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Garry back to the family at Tickford,” Edwards said.

“We obviously worked together for a couple of years and had some great results, so it’s great to have him back in the team for this year’s enduros.

“For Garry to come in with so much recent experience at this level is a big plus, he’s shown before that he is a darn good driver and we think he’ll excel in the environment we have here.

“Of course we have some great memories together already: winning the Super2 title a few years back, and he did a very good job as a rookie co-driver in 2017.

“We’re very excited to welcome him back to Tickford and are looking forward to creating more memories at Sandown and Bathurst later this year.”
