Greg Shilling’s team continues to dominate in division one GV Weekend Pennant.

They defeated Chris Cooney’s Tallygaroopna side 21-15, bringing their tally to five wins out of six for the season.

Their only loss has been to Shepparton Golf’s imported team from Essendon, led by state skipper Anthony Flapper.

This week, Shilling, Graeme King, and Rob Sceney were joined by local star Charlie Boswood.

Boswood, who is playing on permit for Melbourne Premier Division two side Port Melbourne, delivered a brilliant game at third to set up the win.

Kyabram’s only winners were Shilling’s team, which triumphed against top team and last year’s premiers, Tallygaroopna.

Rob George was narrowly defeated by Mark Ryan 15-18, in a very entertaining game.

Mal Williams’ team held on until the 12th end, but were overrun by Guy Madigan’s side, losing 14-27.

Noel Reddrop’s side fought back to 12-15 by the 16th end, but a loss of five shots on the 21st end saw them go down 14-23.

Kyabram now sits sixth on the ladder after earning only two points against Tallygaroopna, but it faces a very winnable game against Hilltop at home in round seven.

At Shepparton Golf, Kyabram’s division three side slipped to sixth place on the ladder after a 2-16 loss.

They are in desperate need of a win against the top team Mooroopna in the next round to get their season back on track.

Graeme Woodcock drawing a shot for his team in their 20-18 win in division three against Shepparton Golf.

Graeme Woodcock’s team was the standout for Kyabram, securing a 20-18 win over Bruce McInerny after scoring five shots over the last three ends.

Phil Denham was level at 10-all with Gary Eastment, then trailed 10-18, but rallied to score six shots over the last two ends, narrowly losing 16-18.

Wayne Chambers’ team faltered in the second half to lose 13-22, and Don Cook’s team was overrun, losing 11-22.

At home, Kyabram lost by one shot to Murchison in a close contest.

Despite the loss, Kyabram gained three points and held on to fourth place on the ladder.

They face a must-win game against bottom team East Shepparton next week.

John Fanning’s team of Bailey Jackson, Murray Tenace, and Howard Tonkin were the standouts for the day, bowling impressively to secure a 20-13 win.

Helen Chapman’s team showed great grit, recovering from losing 17 shots over three ends early in their game to trail 7-17.

They clawed their way back to a 24-all draw. Geoff Coad’s team led 12-10 on the 14th end but fell away, losing 12-20.

Kyabram was stretched by Mooroopna Golf in Division seven this week at “Cat Land.” They secured an 11-3 victory in a match they needed to win to stay on top of the ladder.

Skipper Ted Hazelman, alongside Ian George, Wendy Mitchell, and Jan MacFadyen, continued to impress with another solid rink win.

They forged a 12-3 lead by the ninth end and held off a fast-finishing Mooroopna Golf side to win 18-14.

“Marvellous” Murray Boswood’s team had a real battle with Mooroopna’s Ken Maude, resulting in a fitting 17-all draw after an exciting match.

Kyabram now prepares to face the second-placed team, Rushworth, in a crucial round seven match-up at Rushworth.

The club enjoyed a fantastic pasta night on Saturday, thanks to Jack and Lucy Portia.

A big thank you goes to the Portias for all their efforts and to the Kyabram members who turned up to support two of our finest club contributors.
