Need an activity to keep the kids busy during the school holidays?

Four free junior sports clinics will be held across Greater Shepparton from April 8 to 11 for children aged five to 15.

Not to mention a free coffee van for the parents.

The clinics will run from 9:15am to noon and feature 30-minute sessions on four sports (football, cricket, netball and tennis) with a 20-minute morning tea break in between.

Greater Shepparton City Council’s flood recovery team, Resilience in Recovery, is offering the clinics, as Mayor Shane Sali believes the free sessions will benefit the community.

“It is great to see these free clinics being run during the school holidays,” he said.

“Council aims to provide an opportunity for all children to participate and enjoy.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for kids to get out there and try something new.

“These clinics provide a shared experience that strengthens community bonds and builds a sense of belonging among our residents.”

The four clinics will be held at Murchison Recreation Reserve (April 8), Undera Recreation Reserve (April 9), Kialla Main Oval (April 10) and Mooroopna Recreation Reserve (April 11).

Council manager of flood recovery Carla Dixon said the clinics would assist the community following the October 2022 floods.

“The idea of junior sports clinics came from all community recovery committees actively working to build their communities back post the October 2022 flood event,” she said.

“Committee members wanted to build on their existing assets (recreation reserves) and provide a free and accessible opportunity to all children and young people in Greater Shepparton.

“The activity will provide an opportunity for all families to receive disaster recovery information and build their knowledge of the support that is available post the October 2022 floods.”
