The Lake Benalla foreshore was a hive of activity on Saturday, October 12, as the North East Skate Park Series touched down in the Rose City.

With between 70 and 80 competitors set to go head-to-head in several different categories including skateboards, roller skates, rollerblades, scooters and BMXs, there was excitement in the air.

Al Taylor, from Al’s Skate Co in Wodonga, who organises the series, said he was pleased with the turnout.

“We’ve got the market going on across the way there,” he said.

“We've got the barbecue set up, and we’ll have plenty going on across the whole day to keep everyone entertained.”

Benalla’s Tyler Vaughan was helping to run the Full Impact Squad Youth Market while preparing to step up to the quarter pipe.

“I heard about the North East Skate Park Series when it came around in the last few years,” he said.

“I love skateboarding and wanted to be a part of it.”

Tyler, who has been skating for about two years, said it’s great to have a decent skate park in Benalla.

“It’s great to ride, and it’s nice when you get a competition and everyone turns up to skate.

“It’s very good to see everyone enjoying it.”
