In a fortnight of multiple finals, there is new Club Mulwala Snooker Club doubles and Spring Triples champions.
In the coming weeks the singles format will take centre stage as the club championship and the Bob Organ B grade championships will be fought out.
The Spring Triples final saw the leading teams from qualifying rounds facing off in a best of 9 frame contest in what was expected to be a very even contest.
Ben Dundee, Darren Edwards and Kevin Young prevailed to top off their very impressive tournament run where they dropped their first match but were undefeated for the duration of the event.
The combination of Deb’ Harbrow, Daryl McKernan and Heie Hansen had a great run in the competition and are to be congratulated on their runners up finish.
The club doubles championship had a number of new combinations participating with defending champions Adrian Ridley and Mia Macheda not playing and former champions in Darren and Jake Thompson being unavailable due to work commitments.
The final match in the best of three frame format was contested by Adrian Ridley and Luca Macheda (the youngest club member) and Heie Hansen and Michael Barclay, and it turned out to be a ripping contest.
The uncle/nephew combination of Ridley and Macheda took the first frame but Heie and Michael fought back well to take the second and bring on a decider, which went all the way to the pink ball before being finalised.
In an amazing coincidence, Adrian and Luca won when Luca potted the winning pink, which replicated exactly the 2023 result when Luca’s sister, Mia, had potted the same ball to claim the 2023 title whilst also being partnered with Adrian.
Congratulations to the new champions and to Michael and Heie on making the final in their first event together.
The October club challenge was contested by a big field on Monday, October 7 and Heie Hansen continued his excellent form when he took out Nev Page in the final to claim the major prize.
Heie then followed up with a victory in the social night of October 9 over Martin Dermietzel to guarantee a significant handicap revision very soon.
Jason Bassett also ensured a revised handicap when he completed a running double of social night victories on October 2 over the very consistent Heie.
Club stalwart Debbie Harbrow will soon be taking an injury enforced leave of absence from the club and all members wish her the very best of luck with her forthcoming surgery.
The club look forward to Deb’s return and seeing her moving around the tables with much more ease and comfort than has been possible for her for a long time.
