The third round of the Picola District Football Netball League is done and dusted with some teams putting in commanding performances on Saturday.

One of those sides was one of last year’s grand finalists, Strathmerton.

The Bulldogs trounced Katunga to the tune of 56 points as they secured another win and moved into second place on the ladder.

For Strathmerton, forward Adrian Crestani was dominant in front of the big sticks as he finished the match with five goals, while key forward Tim Looby kicked three.

Katunga could not get any attacking flow or efficiency throughout the match as the Bulldogs’ defence restricted the Swans to four goals for the game, with two of them coming in the last quarter.

On the final siren, Strathmerton finished on 12.11 (83) to Katunga’s 4.3 (27), with Bulldog Theo Thomas receiving best-on-ground honours.

In other football matches across the league, 2023 premier Waaia continued its winning ways with a 50-point victory over Picola United.

The Bombers held on to a 21-point lead at half-time before they fully took control of the match in the second half, with the score finishing 16.10 (106) to 8.8 (56).

Waaia’s Connor Brown kicked the most goals in the match with four.

Katandra secured its second win of the season by defeating Tungamah away from home by 20 points.

Kats key forward Tom Jeffery kicked four goals for the match.

Ladder leader Deniliquin won its clash against Rennie by a comfortable margin of 54 points.

Katamatite bounced back from the previous weekend’s disappointing result against Katandra by producing an impressive performance against Jerilderie.

The Tigers won by 90 points and were able to restrict the Demons to 15 points for the four quarters.

Mathoura secured its first win of the season against Blighty, 14.8 (92) to 3.5 (23), while Berrigan defeated Yarroweyah by 53 points to round the action.

Meanwhile, in the netball, Strathmerton defeated Katunga in a tight encounter.

The Bulldogs won the match by 10 goals, 33-23.

Katandra defeated Tungamah by 15 goals in their match, with Katandra now sitting in eighth spot on the ladder at the end of the round.

Waaia was dominant in its match against Picola United, winning 49-14.

Katamatite was another side to back up its footballing brothers and secure victory as it defeated Jerilderie 59-30.

Mathoura was only one of two teams to win away from home this round (the other being Katandra) as it defeated Blighty 27-39.

Deniliquin nearly doubled Rennie’s score in its match, winning 36-19, while Berrigan went on a scoring spree in its 32-goal win against Yarroweyah, the game finishing 55-23.
