Three points will be the aim for the Goulburn Valley Suns this weekend, when they welcome Pascoe Vale to John McEwen Reserve.
A tough 3-2 loss last time out to Werribee City has rocked the boat, after the side shared points with Manningham United in the season opener.
The Suns come up against a Pascoe Vale outfit who also played out a goalless first round, but backed it up in round two with a strong 3-1 dismantling of Langwarrin.
Irish recruit Jamie Hamilton scored the Suns’ first of the season last weekend — the midfielder initiating a quick response after his side went down early at Werribee.
Darcy Pawlik found the back of the net just six minutes later to get his side into the lead, but a brace from City’s Nemanja Spasojevic in the second-half would take the game away from the Suns.
Coach Craig Carley said taking “sloppy goals” out of the equation would put his side in much better stead this weekend.
“I’ve got no complaints about the final score (last weekend), we just need to raise our standards and perform better than what we did,” he said.
“We know our standards and we know we’re better than that.”
The men in orange will be boosted this weekend by a return to their home fortress, with Carley hopeful home support would kick-start a winning run for his side.
“It’ll be good to be back at home in front of our home crowd,” he said.
“It looked like we had a good turnout in round one, so hopefully we can get that again this weekend against Pascoe Vale.”
The Suns face Pascoe Vale FC on Saturday, April 2, at John McEwen Reserve, with kick-off at 3pm.
