An impressive away performance and 1-1 draw with Kingston City has provided the Goulburn Valley Suns a platform from which they may hope to launch their quest for National Premier League 2 survival.

One game remains of a torrid 2022 season for the men in orange, before a play-off decider on Sunday, August 28.

The Suns return to McEwen Reserve this Saturday for their final home-and-away match of the NPL2 season and, for many, it couldn’t come soon enough.

Still winless after 21 games, the Suns have just the four draws to show for their season.

But a strong performance on the road, against a Kingston City outfit that dominated at McEwen Reserve earlier this year, is sure to give coach Lee Blackburn and his men plenty of cause for hope.

It was the Suns that struck first at The Grange Reserve on Saturday, with Suns youngster Brandon Giaccherini finding the back of the net in the 34th minute to open his account for the year.

The lead didn’t last long, however, with City finding a leveller six minutes later through Faisal Sakhizada.

Neither side was able to pull ahead after a goalless second half, leaving the points to be shared.

Despite a lack of goals, the referee was kept busy on Saturday, brandishing no less than eight yellow cards.

Brunswick City makes the trek to McEwen Reserve for the final match of the NPL2 regular season on Saturday, August 20, with kick off at 3pm.
