The Redbacks lacked venom on Saturday afternoon as Tallarook tore through Alexandra.

After Alexandra won the toss at Tallarook Recreation Reserve, the home side took it upon itself to squash the Redbacks quick smart.

Blake Munari-O’Dwyer took six wickets off his seven overs for an economy of 3.34.

Alexandra’s Tim Polson was the only batter to come close to putting a double-digit score on the board with a hard-fought nine runs.

After 27.1 overs, the Redbacks were swept away.

The side posted 52 runs for Tallarook to chase down.

Things did not go as planned for Tallarook at the start of its innings.

Dan Fisher fell cheaply as Justin Leary cleaned up his stumps.

Lachlan Watts did the heavy lifting, coming in at first drop and securing the high score on the day of 25 (not out).

Shane Topham was the only other player to be dismissed.

Leary bowled the Tallarook batsman with the scores level, and Xavier Arandt had the honour of hitting the winning runs.

The win keeps Tallarook second on the table, as the unbeaten Eastern Hill had a bye this week.

Seymour, who sits level on points with Tallarook, had a fruitful day at Pyalong Recreation Reserve.

Seymour won the coin toss and elected to bat against Pyalong.

The opening partnership saw Jason Brown and Hayden Gawne put 117 runs on the board before Brown was caught one short of a half-century.

Gawne had 83 runs to his name before he departed on 83 runs.

Decent standings by captain Brodey Pointon and Braidon Horkings saw Seymour post a total of 5/227 off its 45 overs.

Pyalong’s first partnership was not as profitable as its opposition as Hamza Riaz caught Paul Dugard with 18 runs on the board.

Mitchell Ryan and Sean Walsh dragged their side back into the contest with a 74-run partnership.

The departure of Ryan, who was caught by the bowler Hugh Smith, started a domino effect of dismissals.

Walsh was caught before another run could be added to the score, and Daniel Snowden left for a duck.

At 4/93, Pyalng was on the back foot, and despite a spirited performance from captain Jamie Pryor, the home side was bowled out for 169 runs after 41 overs.

Seymour had clenched victory by 58 runs.

In the final match of the round, Avenel looked to have set a low total for the Tigers to chase down at Yea Recreation Reserve.

Avenel hit 81 runs off 30 overs before they were bowled out.

Yea’s Dylan Thompson took three wickets at an economy of 1.75, while Avenel’s Chayse Thomson high-scored with 21 runs.

The visitors total was well within the Tigers’ wheelhouse, but three-wicket hauls from Andrew and Chayse Thomson swung the game in Avenel’s favour.

Will Dalton was the high scorer for Yea with 16 runs, as the Tigers were all out for 63 runs.

Avenel claimed its first win of the season and climbed to fifth on the table.

The Tigers are still in the hunt for their first victory.
