Tatura Lawn Tennis Club was one of two hosts for a Victorian youth tennis qualifying tournament at the weekend.

The event was hosted across Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29 with regional Victoria’s best young talents on court to qualify for a statewide competition early next year.

The 10-and-under and 12-and-under brackets were held at Traralgon, but Tatura hosted the 14-and-under and junior open action.

Loddon Campaspe finished as the highest-ranked 14-and-under squad in this instalment of the the Regional Event Series with a perfect 5-0 record, as Central Gippsland wound up in second.

Loddon Campaspe dominated its competition across the event, dropping only a single set out of 50 contested across five matches.

There was better local news in the open competition, where a standalone Goulburn side placed second.

Representatives from Shepparton, Kilmore, Numurkah and Undera comprised the youthful Goulburn outfit, its only defeat in five contests was to eventual winner Barwon.

Rhiann Eddy (Undera) and Hannah O’Brien (Numurkah) won plaudits in particular after going unbeaten through their individual sets.

News photographer Rechelle Zammit was courtside to catch snaps of the action.
