Tatura’s Rajwinder Singh has returned to the podium with a silver medal placing at the Pan Pacific World Masters Games held on the Gold Coast earlier this month.
Singh competed in the shot put and discus categories and secured a silver in shot put in the 55+ age group.
A junior national champion in her home country and South Asian gold medallist, Singh took a break from the sport after moving to Australia from India in 1990 at the age of 24.
After a 26-year hiatus, Singh would take up the sport again in 2017, making a triumphant comeback with a silver at the Perth World Masters Games.
Singh has also won gold in shot put and silver in discus when she represented Australia in the Masters National Championships in Canberra.
A full-time nurse, Singh said the pandemic and her work obligations had gotten in the way of her training commitments in the past year.
“This year I was not as prepared because of COVID, it has been so busy and I didn’t have time for training this year,” Singh said.
“This year I was not that prepared, I trained for about a month and a half, not much this year.
Having clinched a silver medal after a couple of years away from the sport, Singh said she was excited about what the future holds.
“I will really train now and devote some time to my training, it’s a good way to keep fit, and a good excuse to travel and take a holiday.”
