Teng Kuol has started the 2023 NSW National Premier League season off with a bang after scoring for Western Sydney Wanderers in their 3-1 win at the weekend.

Taking on Central Coast Mariners in his side’s opening match of the campaign, Kuol slid home his shot from the edge of the box, past the keeper and into the bottom corner to help the Wanderers to victory.

Kuol’s strike was the second of Western Sydney’s three goals, coming during a dominant five-minute spell where the team put all three past the Mariners early in the first half.

It was a sublime finish from Kuol, and it likely had an extra bit of significance coming against his former side.

Teng, the brother of Garang and Alou, spent the last campaign with the Mariners before making the move to Wonderland this season.

He celebrated passionately afterwards, busting out a leaping fist pump as he ran towards the corner flag.

A former Goulburn Valley Suns youth player, Kuol first joined Melbourne Victory Youth before moving to the Central Coast last year.

It was a brief spell in Gosford for the youngster, who relocated down the road to Western Sydney during the off-season.

Kuol will no doubt be looking to follow in the footsteps of his younger brothers Alou and Garang who have been plying their trade in Europe.

Garang joined Scottish side Heart of Midlothian in January and featured off the bench for the Jam Tarts in their 3-1 win over Dundee United on Sunday.

Garang entered the match in the 69th minute with Hearts down 1-0, but his side quickly turned things around.

The Edinburgh side drew level two minutes later, before taking the lead in the 77th minute with Kuol helping in the build-up.

Hearts went on to score a third goal as they notched their 12th win of the season.

Alou did not feature in German side VfB Stuttgart’s squad for its latest match against SV Werder Bremen.

The 21-year-old made his first Bundesliga appearance for Stuttgart against RB Leipzig a fortnight ago.
