This Sunday, December 3 at 6am, the Socceroos will meet Argentina in the World Cup round of 16 for the second time in their history.
The Socceroos broke a 16-year drought in the early hours of Thursday morning, overcoming Denmark 1-0 to seal their ticket out of the group stages.
It’s a feat not achieved since Guus Hiddink’s side made World Cup history in 2006.
The likes of Cahill, Kewell and Aloisi would go down in heartbreaking fashion to Italy in their knockout clash, but this Sunday, Graham Arnold’s side will have their chance to write history.
As always, the Goulburn Valley’s soccer community is right behind its national heroes and Shepparton clubs have thrown support behind the Socceroos and Garang Kuol as their World Cup journey enters its next chapter.
Goulburn Valley Suns president Rob Stojanovski said all involved at the club had been overwhelmed with immense pride after seeing their junior star take to the international arena.
“Australia’s progression into the knockout stages is an outstanding achievement,” Stojanovski said.
“It shows this football-loving country and the world over, in true Aussie spirit, what can be attained with hard work, determination and most of all: belief in one another.
“It proved that the A-League is able to produce the highest calibre of players, capable of taking on the world’s best and that is something that our club, having contributed not only to our national league and now the Socceroos with Garang Kuol, is incredibly proud to be a part of.”
