Cobram has had a victory to remember over opposition Deniliquin in the eleventh round of the Murray Valley Cricket Association.
Deniliquin Rhinos failed to chase down the Cobram Tigers, finishing the game 10-57 against Cobram’s 6-231.
Cobram’s top-order batter, Lachlan Hyde, made a decent 33 runs before being bowled out by Andrew Hogan.
Middle-order batter Jimmy Daniel made Cobram’s most runs with 35, before falling to the combined skills of fielder Harry Hillier and bowler Jake Herbert.
Cobram’s Shaun Downie made 23 runs before falling to bowler Charlie Paton.
Cobram’s best bowlers were Jimmy Daniel and Hyde, who took three wickets each.
Chase Hardwidge and Jack Beasley took another two wickets each for Cobram.
Deniliquin’s top-order batter, Jonathan Tubb, made six runs before falling to fielder Manuele Artavilla and bowler Hyde.
Meanwhile, Deniliquin’s best bowler was Lachlan Holloway, who took two wickets.
It wasn’t a good time for fellow NSW team, Berrigan, as it faced defeat on its home grounds against Katamatite.
The Berrigan Saints simply couldn’t chase down Katamatite, falling 10-100 against Katamatite’s 10-166.
Katamatite’s Ben Lucas proved to be a headache for the home side, making 40 runs before falling to the bowling skills of Jacob Bartlett.
Meanwhile, Kepler Lukies made a respectable 22 runs for Katamatite before being ousted by fielder Brady Bartlett and bowler Lochie Conboy.
Kepler Lukies’s brother Ben was Katamatite’s best bowler, taking three wickets, while Brandon Nicholls, Kepler Lukies, and Mark Haberfield each took two wickets.
Berrigan’s best batter was Conboy, who made 34 runs before falling to bowler Kepler Lukies and Tyler Green.
Jacob Bartlet was Berrigan’s best bowler and the best bowler of the match, taking four wickets, while the Barlett brothers Brady and Rory each took two.
Despite two NSW teams falling to Victorian teams in the tournament, Barooga Cricket Club managed to clinch a win against neighbouring NSW side Tocumwal.
The match, played at Barooga Recreation Reserve, saw the home side win 3-53 against Tocumwal’s 10-48.
Barooga chased down the Tocumwal side, with Cameron Nye being the best batter with 19 runs not out.
Tocumwal’s best batter was top-order Peter Harrison, who made 15 runs.
Tocumwal’s best bowlers were Luke Dinan, Jeremy Packer and Sam Bennett, who each took one wicket.
The current ladder stands at Barooga on top; it must be noted that when writing the Nathalia game, results are yet to be submitted, with 10 wins and one loss.
Nathalia remains undefeated with 10 wins. Cobram sits third with seven wins and four losses.
Katamatite sits fourth with seven wins and four losses, and Finley continues its nightmare season with 10 losses.
Round 12 will see Finely face Berrigan, and Tocumwal will take on Deniliquin.
Victorian teams Cobram and Katamatite will collide on the Cobram Showgrounds, while the top two teams, Barooga and Nathalia, will face each other on the latter’s home turf.
