Kyabram sportsman Tim Nelson took part in the Iron Man 70.3 Melbourne on Sunday, November 10, and came through with flying colours.
With its base at St Kilda, the event consisted of a 2km swim in the bay, a 90km bike ride and a 21km run.
Energy sapping stuff, but Nelson proved up to the challenge.
The event attracted more than 1500 entrants who took on the course along the bay roads from St Kilda to Mordialloc and back.
Nelson completed the event in a personal best time of just over five hours.
He treated it as a training run for a full Iron Man event in Busselton, Western Australia, in early December.
