Tom Maloney joins Seymour ranks for 2024

Lined up: VFL premiership player Tom Maloney will join Seymour for the 2024 season.

The Lions are set to roar a little louder in the 2024 Goulburn Valley League season, with more VFL talent joining their pride.

The Seymour Football Netball Club has announced that Tom Maloney will pull on the red and blue jumper next season.

Maloney joins the Lions with an illustrious career already behind him.

The midfielder was a premiership player with VFL side Box Hill Hawks in 2018.

He’s also made a number of appearances in the TAC Cup with Sandringham Dragons.

Maloney received Norwood’s 2022 best-and-fairest award, leading to him being selected in the Eastern Football League Premier Division Team of the Year.

Seymour’s newest recruit is an inside midfielder who possesses elite skills and stoppage craft.

He will slide straight into Seymour’s midfield group, providing leadership and a strong football IQ.

Seymour football manager Mitch Itter said the signing was a boost for the club heading into pre-season training.

“It’s super pleasing to have Tom on board for next year. He’ll add a great deal of skill and experience to our strong midfield group,” Itter said.

“He’s played incredibly strong football across his whole career, and we have no doubt he’ll hit the ground running in the GV.

“To have players like Tom, Ben Rigoni and Nathan Beattie playing in our midfield, all with VFL experience, bodes well for next season.

“We’re excited to see Tom on the track, and the boys will welcome him with open arms to The Den.”

Maloney will be put straight to work, as the SFNC pre-season kicks off at Kings Park on Monday, November 27.

“Both the football and netball pre-seasons are kicking off on Monday, which is exciting after a few months off,” Itter said.

“Everyone is keen to reconnect and start working towards a bigger and better 2024.

“I’d encourage everyone to get on board with the Lions next season. It’s going to be a huge one for our junior and senior sides across the club, and we can’t wait to get stuck in.”
