Tongala’s A-grade netball side has held firm against a game Echuca United to grab a vital win in round 13 of the Murray Netball League.
The Eagles matched it with the premiers for the first period, going into the break at Tongala Recreation Reserve with the scores deadlocked 11-11.
However, the Blues would show their championship form in the second, draining 14 goals to six to open up an eight-goal cushion.
United’s defence showed more grit in the third, but Tonny was able to extend its lead after an eight-goal-to six period.
The Eagles maintained their pattern with a third consecutive six-goal quarter, while the Blues added 14 for a final score of 47-29 in the home side’s favour.
The strength of this win pushed Tonny (9-4) above Deniliquin Rams and into third place by a miniscule 0.02 per cent goal differential.
The champions won’t expect to be troubled by Numurkah (1-11-1) when the two sides meet next weekend.
United has hosting duties against Cobram (3-9-1) and will be bullish about their chances of scoring a third win of the season after the teams drew in round three.
