A strong all-round performance against Barooga has seen the Blues bounce back from a narrow defeat at the hands of Echuca United in round one.
Returning home to host the Hawks, Tonny got off to a much stronger start than the week prior, pummelling five goals in the opening term to notch a 20-point lead at quarter-time.
Barooga mounted a second period fight-back against the Blues in an attempt to close the gap, but Tonny kept toiling away and maintained its 20-point advantage into the major break.
A stumble in attacking proficiency by Tonny opened the door for the Hawks, but were unable to capitalise, kicking just 1.3 to minimise the Blues’ lead to 14 with a quarter to play.
The third quarter slump was just that for Tonny, as the side got back to its winning ways down the stretch, pouring on a barrage of fire in front of goals.
Kicking five majors and seven minors in the final frame meant that the Blues pulled away from Barooga and ended the match with its largest lead of 48 points.
The final score was Tongala 12.20 (92) to Barooga 6.8 (44).
The attacking tandem of Ryley Cowley and Mitch Heywood kicked three goals each, while Mackenzie Cowley and captain Kyle Fitzgerald chipped in with two apiece.
Ryley and Mackenzie Cowley both found themselves on Tonny’s best list along with Sam Cipriani, Bailey Waasdorp, Matthew Daniel and Alex Williams.
In what is anticipated to be an even contest, Tonny with travel to Nathalia in round three, with one team almost certain to walk away with a top four spot.
