Two thumping wins headline Goulburn Murray Lawn Tennis Association action

We’ve been fooled before, but the Goulburn Murray Lawn Tennis Association’s ladder might finally be taking a rigid shape.

Both Shepparton outfits in the GM1 division will nurse sore defeats heading into a long league hiatus.

Velvet Tigers will sit pretty for some time, though, with a decisive win that bucked their recent trend of scraping through in nail-biters.

The Tigers well and truly put their foot down in the doubles ties, sweeping the first five to crush any doubt of a seventh league win before forfeiting the final fixture and prevailing 8-80 to 4-60.

Numurkah Warriors took an even bigger foothold in their meeting with Shepparton Lawn The Valley, taking the contest away from the outset with five of the six singles sets.

The Warriors remain a game-and-a-half behind Velvet Tigers after dispatching The Valley 9-86 to 3-61.

GMLTA competition resumes on Saturday, February 3.
