Undera’s A-grade coach Rachel Torney described Saturday as a “special day” as her outfit chalked up win number three of the Kyabram District League A-grade season.
In front of a strong crowd, the Lions dug deep in the fourth term to triumph over Merrigum with a 44-40 win in round seven action at Undera.
Goaling pair Alyssa Lindrea and Leanna Valentine were standouts for the Lions for their sublime efforts in the attacking third of the court.
But the four-goal victory was extra special for a range of reasons.
Undera celebrated club favourite Samantha Cordy’s 150th game in style on a day where the club hosted its Pink Ribbon Day.
And for the first time in three years, Undera was able to claim the Denise McCormack Shield ― which is named in honour of a club great.
“It was one of those days where we had a lot of celebrations,” Torney said.
“We had Sami Cordy’s 150th, the Pink Ribbon Day, and we played for the Denise McCormack Shield ... we brought it home for the first time in three years, so it was a big day for the club and it meant a lot.
“There was lots to play for and it was a really special day.”
The win moves Undera into seventh spot on the A-grade table.
Torney said the Lions, who won their first game in more than three seasons earlier this year, were enjoying this new wave of success.
“It’s just massive and it’s given the girls so much belief,” she said.
“We went so long without wins, we’re playing each game as it comes and more importantly we’re just out there having fun and loving every moment.”
Around the courts, Shepparton East continued its dominance with another convincing 51-12 victory over Longwood.
Tallygaroopna bounced back from its first defeat with a 44-34 win over Stanhope, while Nagambie skipped away to a 21-goal win over Lancaster.
Girgarre flexed its muscles over Violet Town with a 48-26 win and Dookie United handed Rushworth a 62-27 defeat.
Avenel and Murchison-Toolamba squared off in the Sunday fixture.
