Violet Town was on the end of a one-sided Kyabram District League match in round two action at the weekend.
The Towners met the might of Murchison-Toolamba at home, going down by 104 points with one man in green doing the bulk of the damage on his lonesome.
Putting up 8.7 in a one-sided opening term — during which Hoppers coach Brett Foley suggested chief marksman James Lloyd may have kicked seven — the contest never truly felt alive.
Only some wayward kicking for goal stopped the margin reaching triple figures far sooner than it did, with the game out of commission before it began as the Hoppers took a 98-point advantage to the final change.
A scary incident involving Violet Town’s Harry Sleigh following an awkward tackle stopped play, with the game ultimately called off early in the final term as Sleigh received treatment on the ground before being transported to hospital for scans.
Sleigh has since been released.
Murchison-Toolamba would be declared winners, 18.24 (132) to 4.4 (28), with Lloyd moving to a stunning 21 goals from his first two games — outscoring six entire teams single-handedly at this early stage, to Foley’s delight.
“He probably should have had a few more; he missed a couple of easy ones last week,” Foley said.
“He’s a bruiser with a deadly kick, and it takes a bit to stop him when he’s on. We’ve got to keep getting the footy to him, because he’s quite good one-on-one.
“We’ve got a few good inclusions with a couple of boys who are just fitness freaks.
“I’m just pushing the boys to play as well as they can, because there’s plenty of depth and everyone is pushing for a senior spot.
“We just wish Harry all the best; our trainers hung around to help look after him while the ambulance arrived.”
Though the senior football side couldn’t get across the line, Violet Town’s A-grade netball contingent found success on the courts.
The Towners and Murchison-Toolamba played out a thriller and by the barest of margins, the hosts held firm to notch their second straight win in a 30-29 nail-biter.
Violet Town is sidling up nicely in fourth spot on the ladder and hit the road to play Undera this weekend.
