Despite the dreary conditions, Violet Town’s team spirit was high heading into the last game of their season.
The Towners came out firing, going for everything to cause an upset to a more favoured Murchison-Toolamba side who had defeated them 13-35 in round two, in April.
Violet Town’s efforts caused the Grasshoppers to make several errors, which allowed the visitors to be up on the scoreboard at quarter-time.
The tide changed in the second quarter as the Towners made errors of their own, which allowed Murchison-Toolamba to take a narrow lead into half-time.
The second half proved as tight as the first as Violet Town's repeated defensive efforts resulted in intercepts and turnovers against the home side.
With the rain pouring down, the Towners had both the home side and Mother Nature to contend with, but worked hard until the final whistle to come away with the points.
Despite the slip-up, Murchison moves on to face Rushworth in an elimination final next week.
