This Saturday afternoon and into the evening, Wahgunyah Speedway is back in action with its annual Lachie Howie Memorial Show for Standard Saloons.

The Standard Saloons will attract cars from Gippsland, Melbourne’s Southeast and Swan Hill as they set to do battle with local heroes in their quest to win a major blue ribbon feature event on the categories calendar.

Also featuring in major events will be the Goulburn Ovens Sedan Association as their members compete for the G.O.S.A 1000, and the Unlimited Sedans will compete in a Lucky Sevens series round. Supporting the major events will be Production Sedans, Sports Sedans, Ladies Sports Sedans, Junior Sedans, and Humpy Holdens.

With plenty of local northeast-based Standard Saloon stars in the mix keen on the victory this Saturday, visiting drivers are going to have seriously earned the ‘W’ if they get to the line first.

Warrick Howie, the late Lachlan Howie’s brother and his partner Jaimi Barber, both former Victorian champions, head a field that includes Michael Fleming-Robertson, Rod Stubbs, Tony Spale, Keith Cattermole, and Rhyse Lavender, all representing Corowa-Rutherglen Speedway Club.

Wodonga driver Corey McDonald will be one of the favourites to take out the Unlimited Sedan Series Round.

Wahgunyah-based racer Rhys Lansdown, also a former Victorian champion, is another serious competitor this weekend, with current Victoria number three ranked racer Jack Yeomans, Chris Miles, Andrew Miles, and Jack Braz all visiting from down south. Expect the Standard Saloons to put on a terrific show.

Victorian champion Danny McCarten from the Albury suburbs leads the field in the Goulburn Ovens Sedan Association’s latest event, the GOSA 1000. McCarten will hit the clay to do battle with another tough field of competitors in arguably the strongest supported class in the northeast.

Last start winner at Alexandra Nathan Shortis, Billy O’Donoghue (Corowa), Justin Ewert (Corowa), Justin Brockley (Corowa), Marty Bassett (Corowa), Ben and Tom Schmetzer are just some of the front runners to watch on Saturday whilst Corowa is further represented by Daniel Joosten, Robbie Miller, Shane Barkley, and Brandon Lovell keen to impress in front of friends and family.

Wayne Eames will represent Corowa interests in the Unlimited Sedans Lucky Sevens series round in a stout lineup that features last start Nagambie winner Trent Susol from over Geelong way.

Travis Ramsdale, a front runner from the southeastern suburbs; Peter Farley from Bendigo; Mr Consistent Anthony McKean from Gippsland, a regular supporter of our racing; Peter Camilleri from Bendigo; and Danny Smith from Horsham returning to old territory as a former Corowa resident are all visiting from afar.

Corey McDonald from Wodonga is also a front-runner in the field and will be keen to keep the biggest trophy locally.

Cooper Lack, Zade Ussher and Taijan Ussher will entertain in Junior racing while Chris Lack, Scotty Hawkins, and Anthony Hanson do battle with Brayden Creek, Andrew Cunningham, Brett Norman and Tom Barnard in the Production Sedans.

Chloe Creek and Cobie McGraw represent Corowa in Ladies Sports Sedans, and Daryl Joosten and Cobie McGraw will have stiff competition in the Sports Sedans against Martin Heiner, Jake and Craig Cottier, and Mick Mannix and the Humpy Holdens in their demonstrations will put smiles on the faces of all as the FJ Holdens get around at a quick click of the huge Wahgunyah Speedway.

Entry is $25 for adults whilst the club offers aged pensioners and Children aged 12 to 16 a $15 entry. Any child under 12 is free.
