It was a day to remember at Yarroweyah Recreation Reserve on Saturday, with the club getting to celebrate a number of special achievements.
A drought-breaking win, an achievement a decade in the making and two milestone moments all took place as the Hoppers faced off against Katamatite.
For club stalwarts Geoff ‘Benno’ Benson and Bek Jones, the weekend’s games marked a pair of landmark achievements.
Benson took to the field for his 300th senior game against the Tigers, having first played for Yarroweyah in the year 2000.
Jones meanwhile cracked the quadruple ton as she hit the court for her 400th club game for the Hoppers.
Both players got to take centre stage prior to their respective matches, running through special banners marking the occasions before the games.
In the under-17s football, the Hoppers earned their first victory in almost two years after toppling Katamatite by 29 points.
Yarroweyah led at every change on its way to a breakthrough 12.3 (75) to 7.4 (46) victory.
Blake Humphries kicked five goals and Kepler Lukies slotted home three for Yarroweyah, while Crue Lucas had four goals for Katamatite.
There were a pair of important wins on the netball court too. Yarroweyah’s B-grade side continued its unbeaten start to the season with a 55-31 result, while the A-graders accomplished something the club has not achieved in a decade.
The Hoppers defeated the Tigers 41-25 to earn back-to-back wins, the first time the team has won consecutive A-grade games since at least 2014.
Yarroweyah has three wins and one defeat on the board so far in 2023, with the Hoppers sitting nicely in seventh spot on the ladder.
