Preparation for the 2023 Picola and District Football Netball League season is well under way in Yarroweyah, with the club announcing its coaching line-up among a host of new signings.
On the football field, 2022 best-and-fairest winner Tommy Scott will take on the role of senior coach, while on the netball courts Bek Jones will step up to the plate.
Both coaches are sure to hit the ground running in Hopper land, with plenty of experience — and contacts — sure to help get the club heading in the right direction.
Scott, in particular, has wasted no time building his squad for next season, with the club signing Sam Mansfield from Strathmerton alongside Nick Decicco and Oscar Mackay from Cobram.
These signings are in addition to the re-commitment of Drew Humphries and Corey Percy, with a big year of football ahead.
Next year’s A-grade side is also coming together nicely, with new coach Jones knowing what needs to be done to get the side on track.
Having been at the club for 31 years, Jones has seen plenty of ups and downs and has started her recruiting drive in impressive fashion.
Former Katunga A-grader Melissa Molloy has committed to the Hoppers for next year, with the all-rounder sure to have an impact.
Consistently performing well at the PDNL level, Molloy took out the league’s best-and-fairest in 2018, while she finished eight overall in the same category this year.
Able to play at either end of the court, Molloy will certainly provide a boost to the Hoppers.
Off the field, Yarroweyah has also undergone a transformation, with Ben Henderson now president.
Coaching the under-14 boys in 2022, Henderson shares the club’s desire to grow, and coupled with new coaches in both football and netball — 2023 is sure to be a big year for Yarroweyah.
