The first episode of Underdog: The Shepparton Gators story is officially here.

A McPherson Media Group documentary produced by News senior photographer Megan Fisher and reporter Jay Bryce, Underdog follows the Shepparton Gators throughout their 2024 season, for what was their first time in the Big V Championship in two decades.

The documentary features interviews with Shepparton Gator players and those involved with the club and documents the team’s highs and lows, capturing the essence of what makes the Gators and their story so unique to the sporting community in Shepparton.

In this week’s episode, kiwi imports Josh Kooiman and Dylan Wilkie share their personal journeys joining the Gators and Matt Bartlett and Sam Beks talk about the lack of resources and funding for the Shepparton basketball community.

The episode also features Shepparton Gators directer Stephen Beks who reflects on his basketball journey and re-branding the Gators and Devin Thomas and Dylan Wilkie who delve into the first few games of the season and what it will take for them to be a winning team.

The documentary is broken up into three half-hour episodes and will be released each Friday over the next two weeks.
