‘Underdog’ second episode now available

The second episode of Underdog: The Shepparton Gators story is now available to watch.

A McPherson Media Group documentary produced by News senior photographer Megan Fisher and reporter Jay Bryce, Underdog follows the Shepparton Gators throughout their 2024 season, for what was their first time in the Big V Championship in two decades.

The documentary features interviews with Shepparton Gator players and those involved with the club and documents the team’s highs and lows, capturing the essence of what makes the Gators and their story so unique to the sporting community in Shepparton.

This week’s episode comes around mid-season of the Gators 2024 season.

In this episode, player Tyler Best shares his basketball journey of playing college basketball in the US to playing with the Gators, as well as US, import Devin Thomas and Canadian import Jayden Coke who share their personal journeys of coming to Shepparton.

This episode also features assistant coach Ian Wright, who discusses his basketball journey and how the Gators fan base has changed over the years.

Following this discussion comes a tough game between Guthrie St Primary School students and the Shepparton Gators.

In addition to this, former Gators player and coach Robert ‘Speedy’ Frame is joined by Gators player Tom and talks about their family’s journey with basketball and Tom finishing up with the Gators mid-season to go travelling abroad.

The documentary is broken up into three half-hour episodes and will be released each Friday over the next two weeks.
