Rationing restrictions are being lifted for Goulburn-Murray Water customers in Dingee, Calivil and Boort after a significant decrease in irrigation demand.

Following heavy rainfall across the Loddon Valley Irrigation Area on April 25, many irrigators in the region cancelled or reduced existing orders.

G-MW incident controller Mark Bailey said this provided G-MW with the opportunity to remove restrictions.

“The rain received on Anzac Day had a big impact on irrigation demand in the rationed areas,” Dr Bailey said.

“We are now able to remove restrictions, which means customers can take what their allocation allows rather than a percentage of their delivery share.”

Rationing restrictions have been in place in Dingee, Calivil and Boort since March 5 for about 370 customers.

Rationing was introduced to ensure irrigators within these areas continued to have fair access to water while irrigation demand was exceptionally high.

Rationing restrictions have not been required in any other parts of the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District.

The 2024-25 irrigation season ends on May 15.

“We will continue to closely monitor irrigation demand throughout our region to determine whether any further changes are necessary,” Dr Bailey said.

“We appreciate people’s patience and cooperation throughout this time.”
