ECHUCA’S FOUNDRY ART SPACE WILL CELEBRATE LOCAL ARTISTS WITH ITS SUMMER EXHIBITIONS, WITH WORK CREATED BY LOCAL STUDENTS AND MEMBERS OF THE ECHUCA MOAMA ARTS INITIATIVE.
Students from several schools in the Echuca-Moama region will have the opportunity to display their work from November 11 to December 4.
Echuca Moama Arts Initiative president Tim Smallwood said the youth exhibition allowed visitors to see what our future artists will be doing.
“It’s interesting to see what young people are working on,” he said.
“You see a lot about what they’re thinking by the type of art they produce.”
The National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne and the Shepparton Art Museum both have student exhibitions, showcasing the work done by young people during the year.
“It’s really important to give young artists the opportunity to share their work, and we are really happy and proud to give our gallery space to these students to help them in the journey,” Tim said.
The Foundry Art Space will also be exhibiting art by members of the Echuca Moama Arts Initiative (EMAI) in December and January.
The Members Summer Exhibition is an open exhibition, allowing artists to showcase whatever art they wish to.
“This is the one chance of the year for those who have supported the Foundry or EMAI to put up their work in a gallery,” Tim said.
“We hold the exhibition in December and January to give these artists an opportunity to sell some of their work before Christmas, which really helps them.
“Our primary role is to support the arts and artists in Echuca-Moama, and the regions surrounding it, and this exhibition really helps us to do that.
“We do this every year, and the turnout is always brilliant.
“The variety is enormous — in subject matter, size, price, just everything.”
Entry to the Foundry is free, with the space being completely run by volunteers.
The Foundry is open from 10am to 4pm, Thursday to Monday, at 17 Murray Esplanade, Echuca.
