Who doesn’t love a long weekend? For all you lucky ducks that have nothing but time this Labour Day long weekend, consider adding one of these events to your calendar.

FRIDAY

Kyabram Rodeo

Saddle up for one of the longest running and most iconic rodeos in all the land. All the top riders in Australia will be riding, roping, racing and holding on for dear life at Kyabram Showgrounds from 7pm to 10pm. Other entertainment includes live music from the Iain Archibald Band, a sideshow alley and plenty of food and drinks. Gates open at 5pm. Tickets can be purchased online via https://www.kyabramrodeo.com.au/

Cost: $30 adult, $10 child (5 to 17) and $70 family pass (two adults and three children)

Shepparton Theatre Arts Group auditions

Ready to put your acting skills to the test? Shepparton Theatre Arts Group is putting on 12 Angry Jurors in June and is looking for local actors to audition this weekend. The play follows a jury’s struggle to come to a unanimous decision on a murder trial. Friday’s auditions begin at 6pm and Saturday’s at 10am. Both can be booked online via stagtheatre.com/12angryjurors/

SATURDAY

Tastes of Rutherglen

Experience the region’s finest cuisine, paired with the most exquisite wine and a chance to meet the winemakers themselves! At Tastes of Rutherglen festival, attendees can unwind and indulge, surrounded by beautiful country landscapes. More than 200 tasting wines, a range of masterclasses and special events will be on offer. Shuttlebus options available.

Cultural Diversity Week launch

You’re invited to Victoria’s biggest multicultural celebration! Cultural Diversity Week is back in Shepparton from Saturday, March 11 to Tuesday, March 21, boasting an array of community events. The 2023 theme is ‘Our Past. Our Future: Celebrating and reflecting on the contributions of Victoria’s multicultural communities’. Council will launch the week with a special event this Saturday at the Maude St precinct, Shepparton. Don’t miss the cultural demonstrations, food, music and family-friendly activities from noon to 1.30pm. For more information, head to the Greater Shepparton website.

SUNDAY

Avenel March community market

The picturesque town of Avenel will serve as the backdrop to the Make It, Bake It, Grow It market this Sunday. Held at Jubilee Park, visitors can wander through over 50 stalls from 9am to 1pm. The event offers yummy food, coffee, a French baker, and homemade crafts and wares. Plus, famous gourmet sausages will be cooked on the barbecue!
