Gas ban slammed by MP

Cost concerns: Rikkie-Lee Tyrell is questioning a decision to ban gas in newly built homes.

The Victorian Government’s plan to ban gas in newly built homes by 2024 has raised concerns for state Member for Northern Victoria Rikkie-Lee Tyrrell.

Mrs Tyrrell said she was deeply concerned about this decision, as it left new home builders with only electricity as an energy source, burdening Victorians who were already facing a 25 per cent increase in electricity bills.

She said the government’s energy policies threatened Victorians’ freedom of choice and their self-sufficiency.

The Pauline Hanson’s One Nation MP said by side-lining Australian energy sources, the government risked increasing reliance on foreign-owned companies and centralised energy.

“We must prioritise our sovereignty and energy independence,” Mrs Tyrrell said.
